History and Origin of Academy Awards | First Academy Awards

Oscar, as it is said among cinematic historians, is a brainchild of Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). This organization formed in 1927 had a single-minded purpose to acknowledge and honor the splendid talent in the film industry. This academy was formed by the combined efforts of 36 most prominent people of the motion picture industry. Film actor Doudhlas Fairbanks, Sr. was the first president and the host of first ever academy awards. The first ceremony of the prestigious Oscars was organized on May 16, 1929, at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. The earlier awards were very different from their present versions. As a matter of fact, the winners of the first Oscar awards were declared three months in advance before the ceremony. Thus this left no element of surprise or speculation for the awards. Yet the first ceremony was a bit private event attended by 270 invited guests. The guest tickets were out for $5 which is equivalent to 70$ presently. The first oscar had 12 categories awards and 2 special honors. The fact that every Oscar fan must know is that the First Best Actor Award was bagged by German tragedian Emil Jannings and that of the actress by Janet Gaynor. The Oscars have evolved out of their first version to a more better and competent form.

Journey of OSCARS till now

After the first Oscar Awards, the results were given to newspapers for publication at 11:00 pm on the night of the awards. This practice continued until an occasion where the Los Angeles Times was accused of announcing the winners before the award ceremony. From 1941 till now a sealed envelope is used to reveal the name of the winners. Talking about how normal public used to get access to the award ceremony it has been always publicly broadcast. The radio broadcast continued till 1953 before the TV broadcast came in existence. The first time the awards were broadcasted in color dates back to 1966. And from then the brilliance and splendor of the Oscars have increased multifold to enchant its audience. Presently Oscars are telecasted internationally to cater the interests of millions of fans spread over 200 countries. So who will want to miss the glamor of these awards? In one's sound mind exactly no one. Yey! So catch on the list to know how you could be a witness of the alluring Oscars.

The Best Supporting Actress Award category sounds a great category for the new ones or the ones with their first break in the Hollywood Film Industry.

The fourth position in this category is captured by the Supporting Actress from "Moonlight" after her performance as a crack-addicted mother in Florida. Her name is Naomie Harris. This might be her first nominations in the history of Academy Awards. Her performance in Moonlight is outstanding and is a deserving candidate for Best Supporting Actress Award 2017 after Nicole Kidman.

Top 3 Nominees for Best Supporting Actress Award

Nicole Kidman has performed as Dev Patel's adoptive Australian Mother in "Lion". As Dev Patel is also nominated for the category of Best Supporting Actor Award for his performance in "Lion" in which he moves to India to find his birth parents. Nicole Kidman is a previous Oscar Winner as Best Actress for "The Hours" in 2002. She has been nominated twice for "Rabbit Hole" in 2010 and "Moulin Rougel" in 2001. The second position of the contest is held by Michelle Williams for her powerful supporting role as a young wife in "Manchester by the Sea." She had two nominations for Best Actress category in her name for "My Week with Marilyn" in 2011 and "Blue Valentine" in 2010. First place in this category is grabbed by Viola Davis for her impressive performance in "Fences.".
There is a great competition among Michelle Williams and Viola Davis for this category but the fate is with Viola Davis, and this will be the turning point of this Oscars season If Viola Davis didn't win this Best Supporting Actress Award for her presence in "Fences." She is already a winner of Tony Award on Broadway for Fences. She has two previous Oscar nominations for Best Actress for "The Help" in 2011 and Best Supporting Actress for "Doubt" in 2008.
